David Nelson diaries, 1859-1866.

Diaries of farmer, school teacher, and private (Co. A., 117th New York Volunteers) David W. Nelson from Bennetts Corners (Madison County). Entries describe farming, visits paid and received, letters sent and received, church attendance, military duties, weather, and other daily activities at home and in the army. Military descriptions include hospitalizations and transports by sea, as well as guard duties, inspections, news of Lincoln and the end of the war, and camp life.
